In unprecedented times, sometimes we need to cling to the familiar…
Someone stop the world. It has been a turbulent few months for many of us. Yes, there were some major wins and yes, there were some major losses. I am grateful for all of them. I’m not as young as I used to be, so the lesson of “this too shall pass” is deeply ingrained in my processing of the collective grief we have all been coping with. Not every day begins with morning yoga, nor are they filled with loving-kindness mediations throughout the day, but not every day is full of dread.
Even though things are still not completely in order in my life or in this world, I finally feel ready to get back to what I love: building community through movies, art and authentic connections.
Like the title of this post alludes to, sometimes we need to ease back into normalcy by starting with the familiar. So, though I love to highlight new movies and artists, this month, I want to watch and discuss something that is a CLASSIC. Set It Off!!! If you haven’t seen it, the movie is about four Black women, all of whom have suffered for lack of money and at the hands of the majority, undertake to rob banks. This, of course, does not end as any of them expected. You can watch the trailer for it HERE.
